Malls… *sigh…

Ok, having spent most of my working days mall hopping in Jakarta, I found an inconvenient truth. Indonesians love their discount shopping spree… every malls I’ve visited had a discount program of some sort. Either a midnight sale, promotion area for the so called “branded” sale, department store sales, buy one get one, use “so and so” card and get another added discount, or even a proposed 50% and up to 70% sale for the whole mall during Christmas and New Year shopping season. True that everybody loves getting a good quality item for a bargain, even some expert comments from the people at the seminar I attended suggested a room full of mall employees, in this time of crisis they can depend on the big red “SALE” sign to get through.

Life in Jakarta

Ok, after spending about 3 months in Jakarta, I can say that I’m almost accustomed with the idea of living here just like before I went to the states. There are a few things that really bother me though:

1. Traffic Jam

There is a highway bridge repair project near my office, so there will be an insane traffic jam in the intersection outside my office complex every single day. Due to the repair all of the containers and other big trucks have to exit the highway, take the local street, make a U turn in another intersection and then enter the highway in the other side of the road. From the exit point to the highway entrance will take about an hour. It’s just right across the exit for God’s sake and yet they have to make a U turn about 500 m away and make everybody else suffers.

 

Hierarchy of Needs…

Teman2 hehehe since di KYNoceng lagi pada rame ngomongin tentang Jamsostek and welfare orang2 Indonesia, gua reply nya disini aja deh biar jadi enak gak gangguin orang2 yang lagi pada ngerumpi hal2 yang lebih asyik… tapi buat gua ini lebih seru…

Semua orang punya kebutuhan yang lain2, kebutuhan2 ini udah dibagi jadi 5 menurut Abrahaham Maslow

Dikenal sebagai “Maslow Hierarchy of Needs.” Menurut Maslow semua orang punya 5 basic needs, they are:

1. Biological and Psychological: food, drink, air, sleep, sex, warmth, etc.
2. Safety: law, stability, protection.
3. Love and Belonging: family, affection, relationship, work group
4. Esteem: achievement, status, responsibility, reputation.
5. Self Actualization: personal growth and fulfilment.

 

Jakarta, Indonesia…

Mikirin tentang Jakarta lately, don’t know why… maybe because in the near future, I might go back to Jakarta after 8 years in Oklahoma… Banyak orang yang tau malah mencela, kenapa balik ke Jakarta? kenapa gak stay aja di US? mending ke Aussie aja, gampang kok dapet PR nya buat MBA lulusan luar! ke Singapore aja, dijamin bisa idup enak dan teratur! But, I have a vision in Jakarta, I want to be in Jakarta, I want to change Jakarta, I want to do something for Jakarta, and I don’t give a d*** of what everybody else thinks… I’m phlegmatic after all…

Banyak sekali hal yang berubah di Indonesia entah itu perubahan yang baik atau buruk and I’m not even sure if I can handle the change… Contohnya: mall sekarang udah nambah berapa banyak ya? daerah rumah bakalan tambah macet berkat busway koridor baru, Internet makin berkembang dengan adanya pilihan2 seperti 3G, 3.5G, Kabel dan bahkan satelit berarti kan orang2 Indonesia jadi lebih gampang cari informasi dan memajukan diri sendiri.
